By the time you can smell it, it has been there a while.
Bad breath in a dog or a cat almost never comes from the stomach. It comes from a soft film of bacteria that settles along the gumline within hours of eating, and hardens if nothing disturbs it.
Cornell's veterinary school puts it plainly: 80 to 90% of dogs over the age of three have some degree of periodontal disease — and it can be there even when the teeth still look white.
Which is the awkward part. The smell is not the problem. It is just the part you happen to be able to detect.
The gumline, with plaque and without
Drag the line. Same dog, same angle — one side with plaque built up along the gum, the other cleaned.
A daily wipe is what keeps the soft film from getting to the left-hand picture. It will not remove tartar that has already hardened; that part is your vet's job.
A smooth wipe just moves it around.
Most pet dental wipes are a flat wet square. Wet is easy. Wet is not what lifts a sticky film off enamel.
Ours is a fitted sleeve with an embossed, nubbed surface — the texture you can feel with your thumb before it ever goes near your pet's mouth. It grips instead of gliding.
And because it wraps around your index finger rather than sitting on the end of a plastic handle, you can actually reach the large back molars — where the buildup starts, and where a toothbrush almost never gets.

1. Sit beside your pet, not over them.
2. Slide one wipe onto your index finger.
3. Lift the lip and rub along the outside of the teeth and the gumline — back molars first, front teeth last.
4. Throw it away. Nothing to rinse, nothing to store wet.
Start with three seconds and a treat, and add a little each day. Most dogs stop objecting by about day four. Cats usually take a week and would rather be held while you do it.

It is the daily clean that most owners can realistically keep up. It wipes away food debris and the soft film that builds up along the gumline, and it freshens breath.
It is not a substitute for a veterinary dental check-up, and once buildup has hardened only your vet can deal with it. Think of it as the thing you do between visits.

Start smaller than you think. Three seconds on the outside of the canines, then a treat, and stop — even if you have done almost nothing. Add a couple of seconds a day.
Most owners tell us the fight is over by about day four. It helps that there is no handle, no taste of human toothpaste, and no water involved.

Once a day is the target; every other day is still far better than nothing. One wipe does the whole mouth.

Purified water, tea polyphenols, food-grade citric acid.
WHAT THAT MEANS
Tea polyphenols are the catechins found in green tea; they are used in oral care for their effect on the bacteria behind mouth odour. Food-grade citric acid balances the pH of the solution so it stays gentle on the gums.
WHAT IS NOT IN THEM
No alcohol. No fragrance — the wipes are unscented, so there is no mint or essential oil. No xylitol, which is toxic to dogs and has no business in a pet product.

The solution is made to be used in the mouth, so the small amount your pet licks off is expected. There is no alcohol, no fragrance and no xylitol in it.
The wipe itself is not food — keep hold of it, and throw it away afterwards rather than leaving it where your dog can find it. If your pet has a medical condition or is on medication, check with your vet first, as with anything new.

Yes — the wipes are made for both, and they are unscented, so there is no mint or essential oil going into a cat's mouth. Cats generally do better held against your chest, facing away from you, doing one side per day rather than the whole mouth at once.
